Manami Numata
Numata Manami tells stories through everyday life objects that appear dignified on the canvas, independent from any notion of time and space, floating in the delicate equilibrium between reality and surreality.
At a first glance, her art looks abstract, an expedient to question what’s real and instead escape into an alternative reality that celebrates the beauty of human emotions.
Born in Yamaguchi, Japan, she graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and won a scholarship to study in Florence for 3 months. An emerging local artist, Numata has started gaining attention through solo exhibitions in different galleries and institutions across Tokyo.
