Yasushi Yokoiyama

Yokoiyama Yasushi’s mark are his cute, disproportionate animal characters, together with comical representations of the human figure entwined with elements of Japanese traditional folklore.
More recently, he has been dedicating himself to the production of the “City Series”, a collection of paintings faithfully representing the cities of Tokyo, Odawara, Shanghai, Niseko and more to come. The big size canvas make the observers a living part of the represented world, among the countless details, myths and hidden characters. The work is so complex that makes people come back again and again, each time to find out a new particular that had escaped the first glance.
Born in Shizuoka, Japan, Yokoiyama studied at Tama Art University and spent a year  Paris as a trainee of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. His works have received prestigious recognition such as the Taro Okamoto Memorial Contemporary Art Award and have been exhibited in numerous museums and institutions across Japan, including Art Nagoya, Art fair Tokyo, Ginza Mitsukoshi Art Gallery, Taro Okamoto Museum of Art Kawasaki.
